Machine learning algorithms are basically what make artificial intelligence work the way it does. Make professional videos with limited experience Some applications of AI tools for social media ![]() This is definitely a feature I’ll be keeping my eye on, and I think you should be too.Great for music hobbyists and professionals I know I will be, and as a test of its abilities, I actually wrote part of this post using it. Even so, as it stands, this has gone from being a necessary accessibility feature to one I think most users should really consider using. I could see this continuing to expand over further updates and I’d love to see Google hook Google Assistant into this feature to give it even more abilities down the road. ![]() With the ability to simply speak your punctuation and the ability to undo/redo and start new lines, you can start and finish an email with ease using just your voice. Once you try this out on your Chromebook, you’ll quickly see how you can do things like compose email or create a document without having to touch your device quite as much. Hopefully those get fixed soon, but everything else on the list works. I don’t think any of these need explaining, but I do need to point out that I had no luck getting the bold, italic or underline commands to actually do anything. That means it will pick up things others around you say, too, so just pay attention to that. While the voice pickup is great and quite accurate, it isn’t listening for your voice specifically. It is worth noting that it will continue listening until you actively stop it (or navigate away from the text field you are working on) and that this dictation feature is not Google Assistant. I found this to be the quickest and simplest way to start voice-to-text when I needed it and to stop it when I was done. Additionally, you can use a keyboard shortcut to engage dictation by pressing Everything Button + D. Click that icon and your Chromebook is now listening for vocal inputs. Once you have the feature turned on, you will see a microphone icon next to your clock. You can also get to this setting by simply searching ‘dictation’ in the settings app. ChromeOS should download your language right away, but you can select other languages to download for local use if you choose. Head there by going to Settings > Advanced > Accessibility > Manage accessibility features > Enable dictation and then simply flip the switch to turn it on. It is off by default and lives in the accessibility section of your settings. How to turn on dictation in your settingsįirst up, let’s get the feature turned on. We’ll go through all the steps on how to start using dictation following the video, but there’s really not much to do if you want to try it out. It is built into Chrome OS 100, found under the easy-to-use accessibility section in your Chromebook settings and it actually downloads and uses a locally stored language model that requires no data connection. It is worth noting that the dictation feature is not hidden behind any flags and needs no special setting to use. As it turns out, these latest changes to this long-standing Chrome OS feature make it something worth checking out and probably something you will want to start using right away. I know I didn’t think too much of it, and until I gave it a try, I had no idea how good it is to use with these latest enhancements. One of those announced features was the updated dictation functionality and you’d be forgiven for overlooking it in the latest version of ChromeOS. The latest version of ChromeOS 100 came with quite a few new and updated features.

That being said, it’s important to understand the difference between various mail services. Plus, in the grand scheme of things, the US Post Office (USPS) is relatively organized and rarely loses mail coming in from overseas. ![]() After he sold his last property there, he wanted to make sure he could still receive any statements. In some cases, it’s obvious this is a mailbox while in other cases, it appears to be an apartment or office suite.įor example, Andrew uses a mailbox service in the US. Traditionally, mailbox forwarding services have worked on a simple premise – they provide you a street address at which you can receive mail by using a designated box number. ![]() This is one of the other ways to ease into the global lifestyle. But first, we’ll discuss how global mail forwarding services work and what types exist. In this article, we’re going to share several mail forwarding services we’ve come across that are worth your consideration. Mailbox forwarding services appeal to digital nomads and perpetual travelers who fly all around the world and would like to receive personal mail while doing so. ![]() Many people who are interested in the Nomad Capitalist lifestyle haven’t considered this because mail might not be the first thing they think about when they start to incorporate that lifestyle into their daily life. One of the most frustrating things for a digital nomad or perpetual traveler is figuring out how to receive your mail. Most apps have a free trial, but to get the features you need you’ll usually have to pay. Some apps act like a social network, letting you share routes, see where others have been walking, and download new routes for instant use. GPX import/exportĮasily exchange routes with other apps thanks to the cross-platform GPX file format. CompassĪ phone compass is rarely as accurate as a magnetic compass use for general guidance only. ![]() Most apps let you record your walk for future analysis (or save it as a route to follow again later). WebsiteĪ companion website lets you plan routes on your computer and may even let you print maps to scale. This saves a lot of time! Grid referenceĪlthough not essential, a quick OS grid ref is very useful, especially if you also use paper maps. The best hiking apps for route planning let you ‘snap to path’, automatically tracing the lines of paths on the map. You should be able to plan routes when offline too. The app must let you download maps and planned routes for use offline. Look for detailed topo maps of the country you’ll be walking in (OS or Harvey maps in the UK). Always carry a paper map and compass and know how to use them. We do not recommend that you rely solely on a smartphone app for mountain navigation. The review focuses on hiking apps that offer OS mapping for UK use, but also includes other apps of interest for the international trekker or multi-sport enthusiast. Many people are asking themselves where to turn now that ViewRanger is not long for this world – is Outdooractive the app for them, or will another one better suit their needs?įor this review, I have aimed to answer that question. Outdooractive works differently to ViewRanger some users have been concerned that the newer app won’t be as capable. In November 2021 it was announced that ViewRanger would be discontinued by the end of February 2022. But in late 2019 ViewRanger was taken over by Outdooractive and there has been a gradual transfer of features to the newer hiking app. It offered worldwide mapping and robust planning tools, and had a reputation for stability. Although several good options exist, for many years ViewRanger was commonly recommended as the best choice. At a minimum, the best hiking apps must offer detailed offline topographical mapping. Google Maps will not cut – see why with our article on Google Maps for hiking. ![]() Some of the best hiking apps enable you to show a huge amount of data on the screen at once, such as multiple planned routes (often colour coded) and large sets of waypoints (such as all the Munros). Locations of interest can be saved as waypoints. You can zoom in and out on the map, and carry maps for the entire world in your pocket. Planning routes is often significantly quicker and easier, and will automatically calculate distance, total ascent, and other data. There are several advantages to using a digital mapping tool. Others go all-in with digital navigation and the traditional nav kit remains in the pack as the backup system.įor the sufficiently experienced, each of these approaches is valid and can be done safely, so the first question is to ask yourself what role you’d like a mapping app to play in your mountain adventures. ![]() Some like the convenience of route planning on hiking apps but still prefer a paper map for hill use. Many people prefer to navigate with map and compass and only want a hiking app as a last-resort backup. Here, we take a look at the best hiking apps to help you find your way in the mountains.ĭigital mapping and navigation hiking apps occupy various positions along a spectrum of use. Most smartphones are reliable, waterproof, and with a few simple tricks (such as activating Airplane Mode and carrying a backup power pack) battery life is more than good enough. Hiking apps, for many of us, are here to stay in the hills. After that, students have the rest of class to be artists. Anything I choose to do is in reaction to observed student needs or a connection to the unit of inquiry. I may set out their current projects and have students constructively critique with each other. I may introduce an artist, movement or cultural tradition. I may do a quick demo on a skill or technique. Now when students come to class the only first five or ten minutes are mine. I flipped my art room to reflect studio practices and relinquished control of the projects. The results of my inquiry encouraged me to make the biggest, most meaningful change I have ever made professionally. The Studio Habits are a structure that reminds me of the scientific method as it is a natural process a growing artist lives and breathes. Practitioners of TAB employ the framework Studio Habits of Mind, designed by Project Zero of Harvard. ![]() The TAB approach consists of three essential statements: I learned that through this philosophy the teacher facilitates the art room as a studio space while the students drive the inquiry and the learning. I started asking questions, reading books and visiting TAB classrooms nearby. Like any lifelong learner, I was curious. I started admitting to myself that those were my connections, they only made the most sense to me, and that forcing those connections onto the students was not helping their own inquiry process.Īt about the same time, I began hearing about Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) from other art teachers on social media. However, I found myself mostly disappointed, because I found it difficult to get the students to care about those connections with me. In a way, I was comforted because I knew the connection was there I was at the very least exposing students to these connections while they improved their skills. I was a well-oiled machine: introducing and directing art projects, and making connections to every single grade level planner. It was too big, too expensive a space, and too hidden for patrons to find. Like many of the restaurants that close every summer, Oolite was missing a few elements critical to success. When I visited for a review, nearly 60 guests couldn’t help break the silence. Even without it, the 200-seat limestone-covered space felt cavernous. Its existence was shorter than its name, A.I.R. The space also gave Wessel the long-sought, misbegotten opportunity to open a bar. Despite its proximity to Lincoln Road, both Cooper and Oolite were modern-day equivalents of El Dorado for the throngs of gawking tourists only steps away. Ben-Zion, who still enjoys runaway success at Gigi, clearly tried to replicate that model in a space that was too large and too obscure. The dried-out chickpea roti, an Indian flatbread, that came with an early rendition was replaced by a spongy, crisp-crusted, focaccia-like bread that was a perfect medium for soaking up the dish’s sauce.Įveryone, however, should’ve seen the problems coming, including backers Roman Cherstvov and partners who now owe the city nearly a half-million dollars in back rent, according to an April 28 letter from the city’s attorney to the mayor and commission. His barbecued shrimp maintained their signature buttery, smoky flair. The gluten-free ethos may have seemed outlandish, but like green juice, kale, and cauliflower steaks, it’s a rising trend to be seized. So there was reason to hope when he announced a return with Oolite Restaurant & Bar steps off Lincoln Road in the space briefly occupied by Amir Ben-Zion’s Cooper Avenue. Former New York Times restaurant critic Frank Bruni spoke highly of him in a travel piece in 2009, and a year later, Wessel nabbed a nomination for the James Beard Foundation's best chef in the Southern U.S. He worked for Mark Militello alongside Hedy Goldsmith and helped pioneer the early days of Lincoln Road with restaurants such as Paninoteca, which opened in 1995. Wessel is a New Orleans native with deep-rooted family ties in Florida. In the dining room one afternoon, Wessel was spotted barking orders for an upcoming party over a cell phone.ĭespite his troubles, the chef's vibrant, complex fare has always garnered a loyal crowd. During four visits, former New Times restaurant critic Emily Codik found the food pristine but the service deplorable. But the place seemed troubled from the get-go. Wessel called the restaurant a “love letter to Florida." Frogs’ legs, alligator empanadas, and Puerto Rican pineapple rum cake tied together his Florida and New Orleans roots. He soon hopped the bridge for South Beach and Florida Cookery at what was then known as the James Royal Palm Hotel. Along with Michelle Bernstein’s Michy’s, the restaurant was a pioneer in the gentrifying MiMo District. Often it will take a number of tours before the hunt finally meets with success and when you finally do achieve your goal you will have a trophy that you can be very proud to display amongst your collection. One thing they all have in common is that they live in very remote areas, and it takes a great deal of effort to get your trophy. ![]() One category of African Big Game animals, which are perhaps not so well know are the highly exclusive species such as Bongo, Forest Elephant, Forest Buffalo, Giant Eland, Mountain Nyala etc. It is also in Namibia and South Africa that a very limited number of rhinoceros are made available for hunters each year. ![]() Together with Namibia, South Africa accounts for over 90% of the big game hunting farms on the African continent. No less than 18,500 visiting hunters stay annually on hunting farms in South Africa alone, which says quite a lot about the popularity of these hunting farms. Hunters are free to choose whether they would like luxurious or more simple conditions during these hunts, but hunting farms are the perfect solution is a number of hunters are travelling together, or a hunter is travelling with his family. Hunting for antelopes typically takes place on hunting farms, where you can relax and enjoy life during the afternoons, when you are not out hunting. In particular the Eland, which can achieve a body weight of over 1000 kg, surpassing even the buffalo, can be regarded as a full-blooded big game animal. Even some of the most hunted and shot antelope species such as kudu, Waterbuck, Oryx, Eland, Wildebeest etc. Big Game - Antelopes and RhinocerosĪctually an animal does not need to be either absolutely huge or dangerous to be classified as ”Big Game”. Classical and well-functioning Big Four-destinations are Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique and Tanzania. Hunting for The Big Four can be done with a completely clear conscience, as the hunt will help to save far more animals from poaching than will be actually taken during hunting. As just about no hunting for rhinoceros is carried out anymore, hunters now talk about the The Big Four. This is just one of the reasons why it is actually Big Game-Hunting, that is now the best tool for conserving Africa’s large mammals in their natural habitat in the wild. Generally speaking it is only in the areas where hunting outfitters operate that the increasing levels of poaching have been brought under control, which elsewhere have grown alarmingly, especially with regard to elephants, over recent years. While it is true that hunting for rhino is perhaps not once what it once was, as today this species is highly protected and surrounded by a great deal of security, the remaining species can still be hunted in the wild African bush - with all the wonderful experiences that this brings with it. ![]() Lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhinoceros have been the great attraction for Big Game hunters travelling to Africa on safari for centuries, and they still are.
